How to convert a .pub file to PDF
PDF is the safest format for old Publisher files. It keeps the layout, prints the same everywhere and opens on any computer or phone.
If you still have Publisher
- Open the file.
- File > Export > Create PDF/XPS (or Save As > PDF).
- Pick High quality printing if you'll print it.
Without Publisher: LibreOffice (free)
- Install LibreOffice and open the .pub file. It opens in the Draw app.
- File > Export as PDF > Export.
Check every PDF before you delete anything
- Page count: does it match the original? An extra blank last page is common.
- Text: is anything cut off at the edge of a text box? That usually means a font was swapped.
- Pictures: are they all there?
Keep your original .pub files after converting. They take little space, and a better tool may come along.
Online converters and privacy
Newsletters and directories often contain names, addresses and phone numbers. Before uploading to any website, check who runs it and how long they keep files. If a site doesn't say it deletes your files, don't upload member information to it.
Rather not do it yourself? Send us your .pub files and get back a PDF and a Word copy (text editable) of each one, checked page by page. $19 for up to 10 files, $49 for up to 100.
